Barry Lawson Williams

  1. Third son of Otis L. Williams (deceased), an accountant for the United States Post Office, and Ilza B. Williams (deceased), former school teacher who became Executive Assistant to the Chancellor of the New York City School System. Brothers were Otis L. Williams (deceased), accountant for nonprofit community development corporation in New York, and Keith Williams (deceased), international treasurer for Levi Straus in Belgium. 
  2. Raised principally in Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle, New York and attended the Westminister School in Simsbury, Connecticut as boarding student for four years of high school.
  3. Majored in Government (AB with Honors) at Harvard College 1966 where he was first class marshal, captain of the basketball team, and Allston Burr Scholarship award winner.
  4. Awarded Corning Glass Traveling Fellowship whereby he traveled and worked for one year after graduation in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
  5. Graduated from Harvard Law School in 1971 where he was awarded Felix Frankfurter scholarship, and also Harvard Business in 1971 as part of Harvard's first combined program (four years) in Law and Business.
  6. Started work history in consulting with McKinsey & Company in San Francisco from 1971 to 1978, having spent almost four years in Venezuela, Brazil, and Mexico doing consulting in logistics, operations, and strategic planning.
  7. Worked nine years at Bechtel as executive assistant to the president of Bechtel Investments and Corporate Secretary, and then as Managing Principal of Bechtel Investments.
  8. Since 1987 has worked as investor and investment consultant in real estate development, cable television, and nuclear contract maintenance.
  9. Was Majority owner and CEO of $38 million construction services company, president of joint venture in cable television business, general partner of $8 million real estate investment fund and lead trustee of an environmental trust, and interim CEO of the American Management Association.
  10. Admitted to California State Bar in 1975. Worked as a mediator/arbitrator at Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services, Inc. (JAMS) 1993-2004.
  11. Has served on fourteen (14) corporate boards. Served as Bechtel representative on Dillon Read & Company Board. Served on the boards of PG&E, Comp USA, Northwestern Mutual Life. R. H. Donnelley & Company, and others. Was lead director at PG&E.
  12. Previously served as elected Overseer for Harvard University. Also served as President of the Harvard Alumni Association. Awarded the Harvard Medal in 1997.
  13. Key community activities include Director and Secretary of Oakland Coliseum, Chairman of California Pacific Medical Center, and Trustee of Nation Parks Foundation. the American Management Association, MLT, and Sutter Health.
  14. Married in 1977 and divorced in 1990. Proud father of three boys: Barry Chandler, Jaime, and Andrew. Remarried to Lalita Tademy in 2004
  15. Member of Bohemian Club, Claremont Country Club, Villa Taverna, and The Battery; formerly member of the Claremont Resort Club, San Francisco Bay Club, and San Francisco Tennis Club.
  16. Key hobbies include playing tennis, traveling overseas, and reading fiction.
  17. Was actively involved leadership of San Francisco Board, a network for Black Corporate businessmen working in San Francisco and the East Bay. Currently runs a peer group mentoring program for MLT.
  18. He now resides in Menlo Park, CA.
